Macallan Distillery 1950 Scotch by Gordon & Macphail

Highlighted this week will be our Macallan Distillery 1950 scotch by Gordon and Macphail.

A little bit about The Macallan:  Was one of the first distillers in Scotland to be legally licensed.  Since then they have built a reputation as one of the worlds leading single malt whiskies.  Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher.  All of the whiskies take 100% of their color from the wood in which they are matured.  As wood is a natural product, each tree is different and in turn, imparts different flavours and colors to the whisky during maturation.  Macallan uses exception care and consideration in the casks they use and is expressed in the scotch they produce.

1950 Macallan by Gordon and Macphail:  We are proud to own one of these fine and rare products at Matchstick.  Distilled in 1950 and bottled in 2006, 43 ABV.  Tasting notes, sherry wood with rich fruitless and burnt toasted malt edge with traces of licorice.  Body rich and complex, finished in subtle smoke with sherry influences.  Cask type sherry butts.

This is sitting on our shelves just waiting to be drank, cant wait to open it up.

Thanks and we hope to see you down for food and spirits!
